Postal Letter

What is the hiring process of the postal service?

I know about the test, but what else is involved when you're being hired for the postal service? Is it like firefighting, with a physical test, oral board, background check, etc?

  1. you can go to a po and apply without taking the test and get hired that way.. then later when the test is offered you can take it then... but if you start work before taking the test you wont make as much money.. people who take and pass the test make about 3 or 4.00 more an hour... you have to have a drug test and talk to a counselor and take a test ( to make sure you wont go postal I guess..lol) but not a physical or oral test... you do however have to be able to lift 70 lbs.. but they take your word on that... email me if you want more info
  2. From my own experience, after I took a Civil Service Test (required for a government job, which the Postal Service is classified), I had to wait for the results of course. When I learned I passed it, I had to wait for the job offers to come in the mail (several did, for everything BUT the Postal Service for quite a while). I didn't need the things you mentioned, but I took the test over 30 years ago, so things have probably changed. Talk to your local post-master and ask how to go about it. He/she should be able to tell you what's required. The article on Wikipedia is also a good one.
