- You need to go to your local postal office to find this out because it also may depend on the weight and it depends on exactly where.
- If it is only a letter you should only need one stamp... I used to have a pen pal in australia and it only took one but i'm not exactly sure about japan.
- Go post office near you to ask. It varies by the envelope size/weight itself one by one without question of course. I have no idea from when people live in USA has been so damned lacking commonsense. In addition, the fare is not to be counting by numbers of postal stamps but by the total valued amount.
- I send several letters a year from Michigan to Hiroshima (my husband's parents), such as photos of my son, cards for birthdays, cards for getting well, christmas cards, Easter cards, etc etc. If the envelope is a little thick, I usually add about $2 worth of stamps. If it's a simple letter, I apply $1.74 from what the post office told me last. When I send a small package, it's roughly around $10. It's always cheaper to take it to the post office and let them weigh it. I sometimes do this to save money for sending domestic, too. Instead of $0.42 I can pay like $0.23 to send a letter in Michigan.
