In my e mail client, what is the difference between 'outbox' and 'sent items' ?

Public Comments

  1. Outbox is "Waiting to be sent" Sent Items is "Has been sent"
  2. Outbox will show the items pending being sent. The Sent box will show the items actually sent. Such as if you write an e-mail and then log off, the e-mail hasn't been sent but is pending it's delivery.
  3. The 'outbox' items have not actually been "sent" yet. This is common when you are creating mail in 'offline' mode. Once you connect to the Internet, and 'send and receive' email, the items in your 'outbox' will move to your 'sent' folder. Does this help?
  4. "Outbox" means you need to send it "sent items" means stuff you already sent
  5. The above answers are correct about the difference between a "sent " item and one that is still in your "outbox". If you are not correctly setup with your ISP- internet service provider- for sending email and you try to send an item it will be in your outbox. Think of it as a "pending to be sent" location. The above posters are also correct regarding not being physically connected to the internet. You clicked on send and it is pending in your outbox.
