How does one go about applying for the Post Office.. Experienced postal workers answer my question please..?
So I've seen ads in Newspaper and online classifieds for Career Opportunities in the Postal Service.. All it says is to call this 1-800 number.. So what exactly will I have to listen to when calling the number listed? What are the requirements for getting a job in the Postal Service? Please list any info you can fill me in on. *I live in California. Thanks in advance.

- You can apply online and look for when they give the civil service exam online too
- Ok I know I'm not a post office worker. But I did know a post office worker and I was told that those jobs are reserved for ex-military. I've asked every mail carrier since I heard that and they are ALL ex-military. Ask around your self. I live in Texas so I don't know if maybe that's just a Texas thing or what, but every time I stop a postal worker they are retired military.
- Call the 800 number first. That should give you a lot of information. This link should also help. http://www.postalexamsprep.com/pb/wp_2c873ead.html Rumor has it that the PO is going to stop Saturday delivery. If that's the case, the PO might be cutting back the work force. (When I was a child, there were 2 daily deliveries and one on Saturday.)
- Periodically, they have a test that a zillion people will probably show up for. Call the number for the time and place of one near you. You might also look into buying a packet that they sell that tells you everything you need to know, what to expect, and has practice tests. It is very helpful, especially the practice portion because a LOT of people take the test and there are only so many openings. The highest scores, obviously, get hired first. Others that pass but aren't as high go on a waiting list. The test isn't difficult, but attention to detail and quickness are important, and that's where the practice comes in. If you don't get hired in the first round, find another job, because the wait is a long one, if they notify you at all. The requirements are basically the same as for any job. Don't be a convicted felon. EDIT: One_sultrydiva's post has a link to the practice package I was talking about. It's worth the money if you want the job.
