How do I get Norton off my computer and get free virus protection?

When I bought my computer at Best Buy, they installed Norton. Now everytime I turn my computer on, it says I need to update and puts me thru heck trying to log on until I push Cancel. It says my protection has expired. I just want it off there and need to know how to get free virus protection. How can I get that off my computer?

  1. add and remove progs, uninstall norton completely, then download AVG free.
  2. go to add and remove programs and remove all the nortons amd symantec files you see i would also scan the reg
  3. Go to your start up menu, control panel, unistall program, scroll down to Norton and then go to avg. Avg has great free downloads, that's what I use.
  4. Assuming your on windows, go to, Start button -> Control Panel -> "Add Remove programs" and in there you should see a few items that say Norton take them just uninstall them one at a time. As for free anti virus I would suggest AVG (http://free.avg.com/)
  5. I know its annoying. To remove it go to control pannel --> Add and remove programs and select norton anti-virus and select uninstall (or double click on it). Once uninstall reboot and then download whichever anti-virus you want.
  6. Just use the uninstall in control panel to get rid of it and as for a free anti virus I would suggest avast. It's simple to use works great and even prevents most mal-ware too. the only annoyance is the sound which can be easily turned off with a click of a button. And one of the best features every anti-virus should have. a boot time scan. You can tell it to scan your computer before windows even starts this way you don't have to worry about windows security stopping it from erasing a virus that's protected by windows.
