Postal Letter

What does the US postal service do with lost mail?

If I were to accidentally send something to an address that doesn't exist and didn't include a return address - what would happen to it?

  1. They probably just get rid of it. There is no return address so there is no reason to waste time and energy finding the sender.
  2. It goes to what is called the Dead Letter Office, which is a big storage area and they hold it. I believe if you feel your letter has been lost you can make plans to go look for it in the local DLO nearest where your mail gets distributed.
  3. Dead letter office.
