Postal Letter

Should I fill out a change of address form with the USPS?

I have updated my address with places that matter. I have noticed some weird occurrences though. A GEICO letter was RTS, though I know they had my correct address. My girlfriendss Income tax return was RTS, though they had the correct address. Recently, a check from my stock account was not mailed due to "the US Postal Service has informed our clearing firm that the address of record on your account may not be effective any longer", though it is. What gives?

  1. Yes, fill out the change of address. Your change may not have gotten to the "places that matter." However, some companies will not allow mail to be forwarded, especially insurance companies (whose rates depend on where you live) and tax returns.
