Postal Letter

Is a designated spot required to get USPS mail delivery at a business?

Will the USPS slide mail under the door for a business that is not open weekdays when normal deliveries are made? Or is the business required to have a slot for delivery of mail? What are the USPS regs?

Public Comments

  1. Generally they are specific to an area. I'd call the post master.
  2. Honestly, it's not so much the USPS regs that come into play as much as how your local post office operates. Call the postmaster and ask.
  3. If the business does not have a door slot or mail box, the Post Office will not deliver mail. Mail is marked "No Mail Receptacle" and returned to the sender. Some businesses that do not have door slots or mail boxes make arrangements with their local office to hold mail on weekends then that mail is delivered on the next business day. Some businesses get such a large volume of mail that they have what is called a "Caller Service", and pick up their mail at their local Post Office. The letter carrier will NOT slide mail under the door.
  4. Call the Postmaster for your zip. He or she will answer all of your questions and propose alternate solutions if delivery at the address is not feasible.
  5. Depends on your regular mail carrier. Usually if you don't have a mail slot you wont get mail delivered.
