- I believe you can set Thunderbird up to retrieve mail from Yahoo. Check the FAQs on Yahoo E-mail Hotmail is Microsoft, so it does not play nice with "competing" programs, and open source programs in particular. Your stuck with what you have on that one
- Well you can learn all about it on its website http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/features/#get-organized and also you can use this extension to use yahoo and hotmail. http://webmail.mozdev.org/index.html
- You use it just like any other POP or email Client. Start. Here is the instructions for Outlook Express, you would put the same information into Thunderbird it would just be placed in different spots. http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/pop/pop-08.html Specifically what you want to do is click tools, account settings add account. Put in your name and email ID (The name will be what others see when you email them.) Pick POP as your mail type The incoming server is plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com The outgoing server (SMTP) is plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com (It may not ask for this.) Then in the next window put in your user ID that will be your email address with out the @yahoo.com The next window should display your whole email address, click next then click finish. If you are not able to send email you will need to manually input an smtp server in the account settings of Thunderbird. Look at the very bottom where it says Outgoing server, click on that then click add and put in plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com then make that default.
