Postal Letter

Finding the location of a person by the postal stamp on a letter?

I sent a letter to someone that I do not want to locate me. Of course the postal stamp will be stamped by the Post Office with my city and state. However, is there a way the person I mailed the letter to can track me to a specific location, lets say a radius of a mile? Anyone who can understand my question and get back to me with an answer will get the points as soon as possible. Thanks

  1. No way.
  2. No. The general, larger geographic area is denoted by the first digit of zip. All NYC zip codes begin with 1. Going across the country, this number increases. On the west coast and Hawaii, the first digit of zip is a '9.' The 2nd to 5th digits of zip become less and less significant to pinpoint a city or town. There is no way someone can track you to a SPECIFIC location. They can track you to a specific town. If this town is small, well ? You could have also sent your letter in an envelope to an out of state friend and have had that person mail your letter. The post office will not do this if you mail it to a postmaster at an out of state post office. They will make note on the envelope where the letter was mailed from and then post it locally. This prevents fraud at many levels.
