How do i ship stuff i bought online to the nearest postal office instead of my house?

you know how if a package gets delivered to your door and you're not there, they try again once more the day after... and if you're still not there when they deliver they leave a note on your door asking you to pick it up at your closest postal office. Since I want to order a gift to surprise someone, I would like my order be shipped to the postal office instead. Do I have to write the shipping address to that of the postal office? what can I do? (Don't tell me to use a friend's, neighbor's address)

1. You'd have to rent a Post Office Box and have it shipped there. (It really would be a lot easier just to use a friend's or neighbor's address.) Could you have it delivered to you at work?
