Career as a mailman...?

I don't know what to do with my life. I am 19 and am not going to college. My friends dad has a high ranked job with a post office and says he could get me a job. Is a mailman a good job? I'd like to know as much as possible preferably from someone who is one.

1. Do it I reckon, if you think about it the work environment is not lousy - you get to work on your own most of the time, drive around in a van/ ride a motorcycle/ walk. Don't have to talk to people really unless they're right in front of you or in close proximity. You will definitely get weekends off because the mail isn't delivered then, right? (At least not where I'm from).
2. Not only is it a good job, but is difficult to get hired due to lack of vacancies. If you have a positive "in" then go for it
