Postal Letter

How can my fellow townspeople and I stop our post office from moving outside city limits?

Most people in this town walk to the post office, which they wouldn't be able to do if it moved. Nearby businesses also need the tax revenue it creates. But they want to rebuild in a new location. Most of us in the town are opposed, but the postmaster is pushing for a new building.

Public Comments

  1. Give them enough land in town so they can expand in town.
  2. You can put together a petition. But, remember...it is the Federal Government, so it will be an uphill battle...both ways...in a snowstorm.
  3. You and your townspeople need to notify your senators and Representatives and let them know that you do not support this move.Enlist their help. They have the power to stop it.
  4. Typically before a new town building gets built, or moved, it needs to go to a committeee, usually made up of elected officials. These people are who set the cost, approve the budget, location, etc. Most towns have to put this to a vote, either by the committe or by the people who live in the town at a meeting. Contact your town hall and ask them what the process is. Also, see about setting up some kind of petition that people can sign to override the change.
  5. Call the Post Office generals office in DC. You have no control over it. The Post Office is no longer tax payer supported.
