how can i get a tracking number from usps?

i sent out an item about a month ago but lost the receipt. The seller i bought the item off of from ebay has not yet received it and i can not track it without the tracking number. Is there anyway i can get the tracking number through usps? i have the item number and the address of where i shipped it to but what other alternatives do i have to get it? i found the receipt! so what can i do now to get the tracking number?

1. Do you still have the green delivery confirmation form that you pay for and put in the package when you purchased the tracking number? The only other place where that can be found is in the receipt http://www.usps.com/shipping/trackandconfirm.htm Unfortunately, without the number, USPS cannot help you track the package (heck, even WITH the tracking number, they still lose packages so how much more without tracking info)
2. Unfortunately, without your receipt, there isn't any way to retrieve any data.
