Change of address with USPS for 2 relocation?

I am moving soon from location 1 to location 2. However, I will be in location 2 temporarily for only about a month while I look for an apartment (location 3). What is the best way to do a change of address with USPS? Can I simply do a change of address from location 1 to location 2 first, then do another change of address from location 2 to location 3 when I find a new apartment? If so, do they still forward my mails from location 1 to location 3?

  1. Make the COA from #1 to #2. When you move to #3, you can file a form with #1 to cancel the COA to #2 and change it to #3. If you simply make COAs from #1 to #2, and then #2 to #3, you will seriously delay your mail, confuse your senders that get notifications, and really miss several issues of any magazines you may subscribe to. Doing it the way I describe will result in no additional delays as #2 would be skipped entirely once you are in #3. You can do a COA online at usps.com. It will cost you $1, This is for a verification step. The payment instrument that you use must have an address associated with it that matches one of the addresses you submit to USPS, as well as the name.
