How useless is USPS tracking?

I had a package shipped from Thailand 5 days ago, and received a tracking number to use on the USPS website. I've yet to receive anything but useless error messages. What's the deal here?

1. I don't know how international shipping works, but when I've used it domestically, it's just "Delivery Confirmation" -- they update the page when they receive the package, and again when they have delivered it. It probably won't be updated until USPS gets it, and after that, it probably won't be updated until it's in your hands.
2. Try calling the 800 phone number provided for customer service. Maybe they can find out what is causing the error messages and provide some useful information for you. Good luck.
