How to ship a package through the post office?

Ive never shipped a package before and i need to ship a textbook. Can i show up at the post office with just the book and get the box and stuff there? Or do i need it prepared ahead of time. Thanks

1. Yes, the post office has boxes there. Just go up to the counter and ask them to suggest what to ship it in. They will tell you what to use if you are unsure.
