USPS Change of Address Question?

This is a very long question but there needs to be a little bit of backround information first. I currently moved and have attempted an address change. For 1 month in between moves I moved in with a friend of mine and had all of my mail temporally forwarded to my mothers house(she was receiving it). After I had moved into my house I did a permanent address change with the usps and its been about 4 weeks with no response and no mail. My mother did receive a letter sent to her house saying that the mail would be fowarded to the new address. Now I have gotten NOTHING. Along with that have been arguing with the post office becasue of the fact that they have nothing on file. Now heres the question. Should I do an address change from my mothers to the new house. or from my old house to my new house. (Even though my mom was receiving it for a month). thanks for any imput I really appreciate it.
