How does the mail post office recognize a real stamp?
Just imagine frauds printing fake stamps by themselves; the post office must have some sort of system.

- Wouldn't you like to know!
- They don't worry too much about it. The penalty for counter fitting stamps is the same for counter fitting 100 dollar bills, nobody wants to go tojail just to save a few cents on postage.
- I'm pretty sure the green ones that say S&H are pretty easy to spot.
- You are right. Just think about how much money they would lose from counterfeit stamps, so I agree with you that the government has a way of detecting fake postage stamps.
- There are quite a few ways to tell. The first amongst these is the fact that only a limited number of stamp images are authorized each year. There are techniques for finding fakes in each kind of postage, including checking dates on metered stamps and checking the patterns and code numbers, etc. Faking also encompasses the people why try to intentionally print the wrong cancellation dates on stamps. Of course the most annoying is the people who tape stamps on to envelopes and expect them to be processed no matter how many times they have been used.
- I think the cost of faking them would exceed the cost of the stamp....
- "I think the cost of faking them would exceed the cost of the stamp" not too much longer if they keep raising the rates.
