What is the best free web based email to use to apply for jobs?
I was wondering, in your opinion, based on personal experience, what is the best web based email client for applying for jobs. The best have to have the following (to be chosen): - be accessible anywhere including the library where you can't install Outlook - have no signature so that if you email your resume, your resume won't have a link advertisement at the bottom because it was on the bottom of the email - is a well known trustworthy name that won't likely be put into the employers spam box - loads fast and allows for text only emails to be sent and received.

- I use hotmail. Its very good. You can pick if you want a @hotmail.co.uk or a @live.co.uk e-mail address.
- Gmail is the best. It is well known, and trustworthy, especially among business people. Hotmail and yahoo mail are considered older now although if your resume is good I doubt people will care what you use. Gmail has all of the features you were looking for above and more.
- I would choose gmail over hotmail. Gmail is generally not blocked in as many places at hotmail, and in my experience more commonly used by businesses. If you're using it for applying to jobs, I would definitely recommend choosing your real name as your email address. Looks more professional than FamilyGuyFan69 or whatever :)
- I use Gmail, with my address being fisrt_name.surname@gmail.com. It handles fine with Internet Explorer 6 and 7 and Firefox. I have a computer at home running Ubuntu Linux, but the browser handling of Gmail is so good that I don't bother with a local client (the most common Linux one is Thunderbird). And when I'm at the library, my parents, or the charity office where I'm a volunteer, Gmail is just as accessible. The ability to apply multiple labels to emails and the automatic threading of conversations are such wonderful tools. Plain text is an option. There's no advert footer - the adverts appear down the side of your viewing pane and are auto targeted at keywords in your email, whilst maintaining your privacy, of course. What's Spam? No seriously, I believe that I've never lost an email to Gmail's filtering and yet I get virtually no emails in my Spam folder. I don't know how they do it, but on hearing my friends complain about the amount they get, I'm eternally grateful. Equally, I'm sure that my emails get to employers - I'm also on the job hunt myself at the moment. Sorry, Yahoo - I still use my Yahoo email account, but the web interface just isn't a patch on Gmail. There is a downside to Gmail - several people on my local Linux users email list won't touch it because they are fastidiously jealous of their privacy. That shouldn't be a bother to you in your job search, though.
