I live in Canada. Is there any way to circumvent costly shipping fees?

So, I'd like to buy a shirt from the Valve store. The cost is 19 bucks US for the shirt. The shipping is flat rate, 16 bucks. I understand why they do this. They have to use FedEx for every international order, even if it's just going over the boarder. This would be okay if I were buying bunch of stuff, but paying $16 for shipping a t-shirt seems a little crazy. Do I have any other options? Like what if I got some American to buy it, and then put it on eBay, with USPS as a shipping option?? Would I end up saving that much...and if so, how can I go about finding someone to do that. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  1. If you know someone in the US, that's probably the best way. Getting someone you don't know to buy it for you is a waste of both your time. I know, shipping cost to Canada is a bitch, but $16 isn't really worth the time and hassle of having it transferred. Plus then you would have to pay shipping twice.
  2. ask if they would ship it 1st class and what the cost would be then
