Postal Letter

I am currently a USPS employee and have a few questions pertaining to other positions.?

Ok I am currently a mailhandler with the USPS, and I started on October 31, 2007, and I am really interested in being a rural carrier until I could become a career city carrier once that exam become available. I already applied last night to take the rural carrier exam. For example although I just started, if the rural exam was given in January and i took it and score very high on it and was offered employment could I accept it? st tell me how would that work exactly?

  1. USPS?!
  2. If you scored over 70 on the rural test, you will probably be offered a position as rural carrier associate (RCA). This a part time job where you might only work 8 hours per week or could be required to work 56 hours per week. You might be required to supply a vehicle, suitable for delivery of the mail. It is very, very, very rare that regular rural carriers are hired directly from the register. If you accept the RCA appointment, you would have to resign from your mailhandler position. It some areas, the RCA position is a good job and will within a year lead to a full time position. In other locations, you might be stuck as a part time employee for decades. It you are really interested in being a rural carrier, visit several post offices that you would like to work at and talk to the rural supervisor and some of the RCA's to see what your opportunities might be.
