USPS Employees. Questions about benefits?

How good are the benefits. how much is the health insurance.everyone says oh well worth it. Im in sales and make about 60,000 a year and the benefits are really good, but everyone says u would be stupid to pass up a gov job like that. I have 4 years military. I dont know what to do. DO I quit my job and go for it or pass on the post office. And is it worh the hour drive

  1. There are many different health benefits that they offer for you to chose from, so it's hard to say what your share of cost would be. All clerk/carriers are hired on a part time fllexible status (no guarrentee in hours). They allow you to 'buy back' your military time, so that would help toward retirement
  2. You will not make 60K in the Post Office for quite a while. Yes, all new hires are Part Time Flexible employees, but that does not mean part time. As a Part timer I worked as many as 70 hours in a week. But the norm was about 50 hours. That was 8 years ago. I transfered to anothet office where I PTF'd again and averaged about 46 hours a week. For info on pay go to http://nalc.org. There is a current pay sheet there. Your army time will allow you to get 5 weeks vacation in about 11 years time, (2018). You get 13 sick days a year that you can bank every year, you will not lose them. Health benefits are according to the plan you choose. Job security is pretty much guaranteed if you're not a jerk.
