What's the worst thing that almost happened to your child/baby?

...but everything turned out okay. I'm thinking of the news story of a postal worker standing at a doorstep and suddenly a toddler falls from the second floor into her arms. I hope no one else has had it that bad and that close! What's the worst thing that almost happened to your child/baby?

  1. Almost dying .... at 4 days old.
  2. My son fell out of a grocery cart when he was a baby.He did it so fast I could not grab him.I was standing right there!! Thankfully he was fine, but oh my I was scared!GOD was with us that day.
  3. One of my daughters was in a near drowning last July, she was 4 1/2 at the time. It was in about 2ft of water at one of the local pools, the lifeguards could not find a pulse on her. When the EMTS got there, they finally found one, she was then transferred to a near by hospital, and later life flighted to another. She was in the PICU for a few days, was not breathing on her own, nurses and doctors were thinking best case scenario she would come out alive with brain damage. Well after a few days in the PICU she was awake, and moved out to general care, and went home the next day. Today she is perfect, nothing wrong with her one bit, she is a fighter!!
  4. my son got ran over by a drunk driver. i was so scared because he couldn't move. but then i took him to the hospital and everything was ok. i hope they caught that drunk bastard! can you believe that after he ran over him he left. ughhh ....
  5. i fell from my crib, straight to the head! nothing happened!
  6. When my daughter was 6mos old, her Dad fell asleep on the bed with her and rolled her (and him) right off of the bed! She spent the next three days in the hospital for observation. The doctors were not sure if she had a fractured skull, or if the xrays were showing her normal skull plate separation that had not hardened yet??? When my same daughter was 6yrs old, she was struck by a car in the crosswalk with her bike (with me with my bike right behind her). The woman driver pushed her along the pavement several feet before she stopped. The bike actually SAVED her from getting alot more road rash then she did. Thank God she is fine. The only injury she sustained was a little PTSS because she would not get back on her bike for a few weeks. I am a single mom w/o transportation...except our bikes, so it was a very LONG few weeks...walking everywhere!
  7. When Pix was born I was 17 and we tried natural but the cord was wrapped around his neck twice. So we had to do an emergency C-section. Imagine a little 17 year old dealing with that. I was freaked out and totally scared. Tatum isn't born yet.
  8. When my son was 18 months old we went fishing as a family. My husband turned his back and our boy stuck the fish bucket on his head and began walking. Right off the boat dock and into the lake. I can't swim so I just screamed. My husband jumped in and got him and he was fine.
  9. I was walking back from the beach with my 3 year old and when I went to open the gate to the house she thought it would be fun to yank her hand from mine and run from me. I grabbed for her telling her no, but she just kept going. I could hear the car coming, it was coming fast at least 45 mph in a residential zone. She was looking back at me laughing as I was grabbing for her. The thing was that there was a car parked at the curb, so the guy in the car coming couldn't even see what was going on. At this point my world slowed down, you know that crazy slow motion thing that happens right when something bad is about to strike. She ran out, still looking back at me and laughing, and I lunged for her. All I could grab was her ponytail. I yanked her off the ground by her hair and out of the road as the car passed. It was so close, and everything was moving so slow that I could see the scratches in the paint on the side of the car, I could feel the heat from the engine. I collapsed on the sidewalk. I started hyperventilating, and sobbing. I think she was in shock, her little eyes were so big and her stare was a little blank. I literally pulled her by the hair from in front of that car. A split second separated life and death. The death of my little girl, by a car going 45 mph right in front of my eyes. For months I had nightmares, my husband says he thinks I was traumatized by the whole thing. To this day I still don't know how it was possible that I lifted her up and out of that road by her hair, I just don't know how it was possible, but I am so grateful that it was.
  10. my friends husband was carrying their one-month old baby down the stairs when he fell and dropped the baby. he fractured his skull. then a few months later the baby's aunt (husbands sister) was watching him and she put him on top of one of those freezers while she was doing laundry, apparently not realizing how easily he could roll right off, and he fractured his skull AGAIN but somehow, he's fine :)
  11. I do not have children yet but i can say what happened to me as a child. I was about 3 or 4 i guess, and i was outside playing basketball with my dad. I had on tie-up shoes and it was untied, I went up for a shot on my (little) basketball net and slipped. I fell right unto my knee, and i skidded! I was bleeding pretty badly, i guess it burned down to the 2nd layer or skin or so. I still have the scar, on my left knee :( Another time I was about 8, I was running in church with my hands out and my little finger got caught on a door frame! My little finger (pinky), was on the side of my hand, and I had to go to the ER. They announced it un-broken but the next day I got a call saying it was. At the office they popped it back in place with a ink pen! (they put the pen between my ring and pinky finger and pushed, hard.)
  12. My youngest could've died. He was born at 32w1d. Luckily [& thankfully] he was perfect. He never needed help from a breathing machine & to-date he is a perfectly normal little boy with no health concerns.
