I'm applying for a job as a news writer. Should I abbreviate my states' name as 'MA' or 'Mass.'?
AP style or U.S. Postal style? BTW, the question mark is put there by Yahoo!. I would normally put it inside the quote. ;-)
Public Comments
- In general I discourage anything but plain English in any formal communication. However, "Mass." does seem a reasonable alternative to Massachusetts even in that context. A definite "no" to MA.
- It should be my state's name since you are only referring to one state. If that state is Massachusetts, the office USPS abbreviation is MA but my question is, "Why would you want to abbreviate it?"
- You write your states name as 'MA', it will be better for you to use U.S postal style
- The question mark is correctly placed. It would not go inside the quote.
