Postal Letter

What does it mean if a company offers free shipping but NO handling?

I have never seen this before. How will it get mailed to me if there is no handling? They say it will come through USPS, but I still don't understand how there is simply NO handling.

  1. Handling is something that As Seen On TV (tm) products use to increase their profit. If they're selling widgets for $9.99 + s&h, then s&h will be $5. If the postage cost (ie. what they pay to the USPS) is less than $5, they pocket the rest as "handling". If a company is offering free shipping, then they're including the shipping cost in the product cost. They'll drop it in the mail and it'll get to you, no problem*. *At least, no more problems than if you drop a letter in the mail...
