Postal Letter

Can you put international letters in the drop box or do you need to give them to USPS employees for approval?

I have a letter I need to get mailed to Canada. The post office is closed for the weekend, but the drop box outside the building gets picked up on Saturdays. Could I just put a few stamps on it and put the letter in the box just like a domestic letter? Or are those boxes only for domestic stuff? In the past I've always just took the letters inside, but I wasn't able to get there before they closed today and I really need to get this mailed.

  1. Hi, Unless labeled otherwise it's only for domestic mail.
  2. For a letter, yes, you can deposit in any collection box. You would only have to hand something to a Postal Worker if there is a Customs Declaration attached.
