can i ask the postal office to identify a fake money order?
I am selling paintings on craigslist for $300, although they are worth $300 each. Someone replied to me asking my information saying they would pay me by moneyorder and pick it up after my payment has been recieved. But I dont want to cash it and find three weeks later that its counterfeit! Is there anyway that I can take it somewhere that can identify a fake money order?

- Yes, you can call the distributor of the money order and ask them if it's legit. I used to do this all the time when I sold on eBay.
- You can take it there or any other store that sells them and they can help you out,I don't think that the money order is fake though.
- Your PO can verify postal money orders only. The USPS publishes "The Postal Bulletin" that contains a list of stolen/missing USPS money orders. I don't know how or if you can verify any other money orders.
