Postal Letter

can i ask the postal office to identify a fake money order?

I am selling paintings on craigslist for $300, although they are worth $300 each. Someone replied to me asking my information saying they would pay me by moneyorder and pick it up after my payment has been recieved. But I dont want to cash it and find three weeks later that its counterfeit! Is there anyway that I can take it somewhere that can identify a fake money order?

  1. Yes, you can call the distributor of the money order and ask them if it's legit. I used to do this all the time when I sold on eBay.
  2. You can take it there or any other store that sells them and they can help you out,I don't think that the money order is fake though.
  3. Your PO can verify postal money orders only. The USPS publishes "The Postal Bulletin" that contains a list of stolen/missing USPS money orders. I don't know how or if you can verify any other money orders.
