On what grounds can the the postal union sue the Post Office for hiring temporary workers?
See the BBC story at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8327158.stm . It seems outrageous to me, what's to stop a company hiring more people when it's workers stop their (contracted!) work?

- Not sure but my perception is that it's illegal to hire workers to do the job of strikers. The Royal Mail say they're only hiring temp workers to deal with the backlog, and this is not the normal job of the strikers.
- Regulations amended in 2007 state an employment business may not supply a temporary worker to replace an individual taking part in an official strike or any other official dispute.
- the union will not sue, as the royal mail take on this amount of temporary workers in november annually, just that this year its a month earlier....i for one would allow TNT to deliver the nations mail and let them recruit posties for door step post. lets get rid of these relic postmen who want the easy life of the past
