Can you mail a car 12v battery with US Postal Service?

Can you mail a car 12v battery with the US Postal Service? If you can, can you package it in a box like you would any other item? Lastly would there be any other fees for shipping it, or would it be treated as any other package,. I ma just uncertain because battery's have chemicals in them

  1. Absolutely not. Car batteries contain really strong acid that could leak out. They are considered hazardous materials that can not be sent through the postal system.
  2. No. Here's info: http://pe.usps.com/text/pub52/pub52c3_021.htm
  3. The two answers above have all the info you need. USPS has tight regs on what can't be shipped, and car batteries are too dangerous to mail. That should be obvious, but then if you have never handled batteries, I can understand.
