USPS new employee question?
Do new employees have to work on federal holidays? I know the mail is not delivered, but do newer employees sort mail and pick up mail from drop boxes? For example, today, Veterans Day?

- Even though there are a number of Federal holidays, many Postal facilities are open, or at least have employees working, 24/7, no exceptions. When it comes time to decide who works, they usually first take volunteers. Then if that's not enough, they schedule (require) employees to work, in order of reverse seniority, provided you have the necessary skills. The term 'reverse seniority' means that newer employees are scheduled first. Even if post office lobbies are not open, and mail not delivered, there is still a lot of mail in transit that must be processed for delivery on Tuesday.
