Is a strike in 2009 by the postal workers legitimate or justified?
Britain has come a long way since the early days of strikes and picket lines. New European Laws overrule British Employment Laws and workers have more rights than ever.In a time of global economic down turn should they just not shut up and put up.Should they not count themselves lucky still to have a job ? My business is suffering because of the strike I believe the way in which these strikes are staggered by one day here and there and different departments doing different days is utterly disgusting.Small businesses are struggling and many will go under as customer are avoiding placing orders in fear that there will be delays. If the postal workers are loosing the odd day pay here and there and as a result my business has to cease trading because of lack of confidence by the public. If the postal workers want to strike which they are legally entitled to do ,at least go for an all out strike and suffer financially like the rest of us. Either an all out strike, get back to work or sack the whole lot of them. No wonder this country is in a mess with a government run by socialist trade union backers. Public opinion still deep rooted with their working class background out of date values in a fast moving capitalist economy. People will take their business elsewhere as we have choice and many more will be unemployed because of the trade unions.

- I don't think you can tell them how to strike. Think about it, they don't want to strike either but they feel compelled. They NEED your business. They're not doing it deliberately to hurt YOU. They have to strike in the most convenient way to suit them to force their bosses into some sort of agreement.
- It is legitimate as you say in your question and the Communication Workers Union members feel it is justified otherwise they would not strike. I am afraid it is not being done to do damage to anybody else's business but a necessity against poor management who seem to treat the workers and the customers in the same cavalier way. http://www.cwu.org/news/archive/support-for-striking-postal-workers.html http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2009/10/21/save-on-postage-hand-the-sack-to-dozy-crozier-115875-21762567/ http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/oct/25/royal-mail-adam-crozier-union
- One Postman admitted that what he wanted was to be able to take 8 hours to do his job, even though at times he could do it in 6 hours, he didn't want to go and help his colleagues - he wanted to go home (but still get paid for 8 hours) Bloody cheek, if only the self employed had that option, my son works for himself, no work = no pay. They are selfish and don't give a damn about the needs of the country, or of any individual or business that they are harming.
