Question about Paypal Claims Dispute process for item stolen by USPS employees?

Long story short. I sold an iphone on ebay. I sold it to someone out of the country and on ebay I said that the buyer is responsible for all shipping charges. The buyer chose to use the cheapest First Class mail. When I dropped the box off, the post office told me that delivery confirmation nor insurance was available for First Class Mail so the box was not insured. Low and behold, someone at the post office got sticky fingers, opened the box, stole the phone, and used brown tape to tape it back up and the buyer got the box with no phone inside. Both sides have shared our story with Paypal. We are waiting on them to decide who will get their money back. Paypal took the money back out of my account and they are holding onto it pending investigation. The post office says, sorry, we can't help you, you didn't pay for insurance. Has anyone had a similar story like this one and what was the outcome? The buyer sent me pictures of the box. It had different color tape on it. Thats how I know the Post Office opened it and took the phone out. You idiot. You crack me up! Ha ha ha ha

  1. eBay requires the seller to provide insurance. Since you didn't buy it, you are self insuring and will lose.
  2. I just had earrings stolen by a USPS employee!! I shipped them to the winner ON MY e-BAY AUCTION. She got a box with a hard rock t-shirt and a note on the box that it had been re-taped/ re-sealed by the USPS!! I wonder if these USPS employees "see" what's in the box through x-rays and take what they like. I had to refund the buyer her full amount. I am shocked!!
