How can I tell if my US Postal mail is being forwarded?

I went out of town over the holidays for a week, no mail when I got home, still no mail 2 weeks after, and I know I should have got mail by now cause I was expecting things. I went to post office to see if there was bulk, and they had nothing, said to check with post man but I cant catch him. but I was expecting important mail when I was coming home from holidays. How do I check if my mail is getting forwarded somewhere else? What should I do? Thanks for your time.
