Do the post offices on post ship to an APO for free?
My husband just deployed and I'm about to send my first care package! He claims that if I go to the post office on post that they will ship my package (which is flat rate priority mail) for free, but I think he's mistaken. I know USPS will ship boxes and customs forms to your house for free, but I don't think it makes a difference where I mail it, I'll still pay the flat rate. Anyone know for sure?

- Yes, you will pay.
- I do not know the situation today, but when I was in Vietnam, my letters were all free that i mailed. At that time all I had to do was print "FREE" where the stamp was supposed to be.
- I have sent packages to Afghanistan from here in Korea and it was free. But I don't think that applies to CONUS.
- It's usually in the same building as the PO. It's not the actual post office, but there is usually a service on base that will do it for you. I forget the name of it, but ask the PO on post and they will tell you. So in short, yes your base will more than likely ship free care packages to your husband while deployed but again, it's not the actual PO that does it for you.
- No they do not. You have to pay like anyone else.
- no. Only if you are mailing from an APO to an APO will it be free. Otherwise you pay standrad domestic rates. shipping MPS does take longer though than standrad USPS times. HE can mail cards and letters to YOU for free while deployed, but not packages.
