Postal Letter

Is it okay for the post office to require overtime?

I work as a casual (temporary) and I was wondering if it is okay for the USPS to require overtime for non-career employees like myself.

  1. depends on how they wrote their rules about giving overtime to temps. they should have explain that to you when they hired you.
  2. Yes, and it is cheaper for them to work you the overtime than higher paid career employees. Go on their website and check out the job description.
  3. It is legal but it's not very cool, is it?
  4. Yes, as long as they pay you time and a-half. If you don't wnat to work those hours, at will employment says you can terminate employment for any (legal) reason at any time.
  5. of course, just like every other job in the USA. Unless your union contract says no. I love overtime. 1.5 times my wage for same work. I never understand people who don't love overtime
  6. The short answer.. Yes. In some installations, the union and management have a LMOU (local agreement between management and the union that require management to use people on the overtime list before using casuals, but sometimes management is free to use casuals first.
