What is up with my USPS Tracking number?

I have a number for items I bought off the net for USPS tracking, but keep getting this "Information for this item is stored in files offline", what exactly does this mean, i.e does it mean I do not get to properly track the item

1. That sounds like what would happen if you had been given a very old tracking number. You could check with the sender and make sure they gave you the correct number.
