What obligations postal office has if they lost a certified letter?

All they are willing to do is give me my postage back when it resulted in $800 loss.

1. ZERO POINT ZERO Unless you sent it registered and bought insurance.
2. not a darn thing. you really should have gotten insurance on it. you could try to sue, however the PO is in such a crappy place financially that you probably wouldn't get ur 800 bucks back.
3. Right. They will refund the postage. There are some situations you can get into where you can experience a loss and have not hope of compensation. This is one of them. Other such situations include loaning money or valuables to relatives, buying a horse, or marrying badly.
