Will my virus protection get rid of my virus for me?

I have Kaspersky on my desktop and Norton on my laptop and both of them keep flashing warnings at me about trojans etc. What are trojans, btw? If I get a virus, does my virus protection just let me know about it or does it actually get rid of it for me? If not, how can I get rid of a virus? And don't say that I need to reboot/restore my system. Because I have no idea what that means or how to do it. Help?

  1. You will need to do a scan to get rid of the trojans.
  2. A Trojan horse (sometimes shortened to trojan), is non-self-replicating malware that appears to perform a desirable function for the user but instead facilitates unauthorized access to the user's computer system. You have to run the scanner to get rid of the viruses on your computer.
  3. I wouldn't trust Norton, everyone I know who's installed it has had problems with it. Most virus protection systems don't get rid of many viruses until you register, in other words pay for them. Trojans are viruses that disguise themselves to make you think they're friendly, then destroy your system once they're in, similar to the real-life Trojan Horse.
  4. It could be firewall alerts if you have the full security suite.Otherwise do a scan with your AV, and post back the results
  5. if you get a virus you av software should give you an option on what you would like to do with it if it doesn't this would mean it is acting automatically and moving the virus into a quarantine file . malwarebytes anti malware is a good scanner its free and gets rid of virus's automatically you can download it from download.com hope this helps trojan: In the context of computer software, a Trojan horse is a malicious program that is disguised as legitimate software. The term is derived from the classical myth of the Trojan horse. In the siege of Troy, the Greeks left a large wooden horse outside the city. The Trojans were convinced that it was a gift, and moved the horse to a place within the city walls. It turned out that the horse was hollow, containing Greek soldiers who opened the city gates of Troy at night, making it possible for the Greek army to pillage the city. Trojan horse programs work in a similar way: they may look useful or interesting (or at the very least harmless) to an unsuspecting user, but are actually harmful when executed.
  6. It should once you scan your computer. But the scan might take awhile so be patient with it. Oh, and by the way, Malwarebytes is a free program that actually gets rid of trojans and other harmful things to your computer (did I mention this was free? :D). I love it because unlike many other free programs that just scan, this one scans and has the option to remove them! And.....it's free!
  7. Trojans are viruses that come across as good programs. They are named after the horse the greeks hid in as a gift to the trojans and came out at night to kill them. Both your programs are very good at getting rid of viruses but make sure they are u to date and haven't gone past their expiry date as they stop protecting your computer after that date. The warnings you are seeing show the programs are working and warning you that you had a trojan virus but they have got rid of it
  8. The best ways to deal with a virus is either a System Recovery, or install windows again. No antivirus will completely remove a virus once it’s in your computer - especially since these one that you have sound like bad boys System Recovery- when you turn on your computer there will be a screen saying something like: F1=Setup F2=Boot Menu F10= System Recovery Press and hold the system recovery button (it may be different for your computer) and follow the simple steps. This will 100% remove the viruses but also any saved files, pictures, videos, documents etc. So back up the important ones or any you want to keep (use a USB key or an external hard drive) Re- installing Windows: This only works if u have a windows installation disk Turn on the computer, insert the disk, then shut off the computer Turn it on again there will be a screen saying "press any key to boot from CD/DVD" press any key you want to It will bring you to windows setup and its best to install a clean copy of windows not a repair follow the steps after don't forget to format the hard drive to remove every file and virus
