What is the scripted date that the USPS puts on an average 44 cent stamped envelope?
My boss at work mails me checks but only come when I ask him for them. When I ask him when the check went out he says "Oh, last week". So, what date is the day that the USPS scripts onto the front of a typical one stamp envelope? Isn't that the day my boss put the envelope in the mailbox?

- The date it was processed in the sorting office.
- Mail from Collection boxes as well as any mail picked up from residential and business locations is taken in to the Processing facilities every afternoon/evening. It is processed through cancelling machinery with that date. A postmark is accepted as the legal date that the item was tendered to the USPS for carriage to a destination. So, if your boss says that he put your check in the mail last week, but the postmark shows a date of yesterday or the day before, that is the day that the USPS actually got the letter for delivery.
