Will It Anger People If Postal Workers Strike Over Petty Pay Rises While Genuine Hard Workers Lose Their Jobs?
With unemployment exploding I say that if these postal worker parasites don't want to work then sack them immediately and give the jobs to people who do want to work and earn an honest crust. It's a fckin joke. Haz&JOM>> Easy enough for you to say if you and your mates haven't been made redundant. I am as anti-Thatcher as the best of them but this is not the time for silly little public disputes.

- Are you crazy? It is a tough job being a postal worker and they deserve our respect. We would be in very bad shape at the mercy of FedEx without the post office. You should be ashamed of yourself.
- According to the union official on TV this morning, the strike is not about money but because the management are imposing changes to working conditions without consulting the workforce despite signing an agreement in 2007 to do just that.
- I'm normally sympathetic to industrial disputes, but in what is an essential service I'm afraid I think the right to strike should be restricted to matters of health and safety. If they don't think they get paid enough then they can look elsewhere for employment, I'm sure there's plenty amongst the 2.5 million unemployed who'd gladly take the jobs. I wonder how the pay of postal workers compares to that of the guys getting shot at in Afghanistan? Hmmm...
- They are not going on strike for more money.
- What should we do ??? Go back to the 18th century when workers didn´t have any rights at all and your employer lord and master decided when, how and IF he paid you? All workers have a right to belong to a trade union and to participate in industrial action (always the last option)if they see fit. If your employment rights are compromised, do you think you would put up and shut up because of the economic crisis? You wouldn´t complain ....not even a tiny bit, because you are so grateful to have a job???? Industrial action affects us all..... but just because it inconveniences you personally for a couple of days why would you want hand over complete control to employers who may have complete disregard for your working conditions?? One day it could be you who needs Union help and because of yourself and others who hold your antiquated, shortsighted , misinformed opinion there will be NO Unions left to give a toss when you find yourself in conflict with your bosses. The Thatcherite tone of your question is in complete discord with your stance on human rights in China. Make your mind up which side of the fence you sit on. edit: Shove a sock in your self righteous gob. Recession has brought redundancy right into my family.
- Appalling question. You are saying because of a recession no one should strike against working conditions/pay/privatisation threats? Just sit back and let those in charge impose whatever corrupt and abhorrent measures they damn well please? So lets get rid of the right to strike, the thing that has given all you dissenters the perks you have now such as annual leave, sickness pay, safe working environments. When they come for you don't bleat though... What next Nurses to work 80 hour weeks? Government and management hold all the cards in this dispute - unions only strike about how these shysters play them. They are are fighting to keep the conditions that they signed contracts for - yet we all stand back and let the bankers piss our money up the wall ...PFFFFFFFT. You are looking in the wrong direction. OMG I accidently gave you a star there ...sod that I've taken it back :-O EDIT- My family and friends have been affected - is a neighbour terified she will lose her house and her 78 yo mother bailing her out enough for you?pfffft
- Time to bring in the top auditor on the UPS and this time tell all.
- They should be happy they've still got jobs! I was made redundant.
- I'm with Jomamo and Haz on this one...I think they've said it all really. I reckon posties do a grand job.
- The sooner this excuse for a service is privatised the better ! There may be a return to the efficiency that we once enjoyed from the much respected ROYAL mail, instead we see inefficiency, "lost"and stray letters and ridiculous pickup and delivery times. From the best postal service in the world the mail staff have brought the system to it's knees.
- Its not about pay, its about protecting their conditions of service and protecting jobs (no one wants redundancies!). What angers me is people who don't support strikes, it is always a last resort taken by employees who have been kicked around by fat cat managers, they will loose pay whilst on strike and you think this is silly? Your the joke. Its a shame more places don't have strong unions that stand up for employees rights and we wouldn't have so many cut backs and redundancies.
- I'm mostly pro Union. I agree with you though. It's annoying when someone who makes a really good wage holds their breath for more, while the rest of us fight to make it.
- the thing is the postal wokers strike this time EVERY year...why because they know what ever they want they are gonna get because they are needed coming up to christmas...to be honest the posties in my area have the brain power of a turnip, half the time if they have a package they dont even knock, just stick the letter through saying "sorry we missed you" while you are sitting there....or they post us letters for completely random address??? whats that all about
