Do you hope that the postal workers stay on strike and put themselves out of work?
Other companies will do the job better and cheaper would you say?

- No, I don't because I do want a reliable and modern postal service. I don't think it would be any better privatised. Look at the railways and utility companies.
- The Royal Mail are already going to hire the new 30,000 extra staff to "Cope with the Christmas rush". But this will probably be just for when the Royal Mail strike for permanent or something stupid. They are only striking because the Royal Mail said that they were going to buy some new machines to do the jobs instead of hiring people. At least the new machines won't strike!
- sack them if they want to keep striking, im sure hundreds of people without jobs would be willing to do their jobs, just to have some money coming in!! seriously, the postal workers have a job with a regular income...why on earth do they think they need/deserve more!!! just be happy you have jobs!!!
- i have to say im a bit annoyed at the whole thing! my boyfriend has just been made redundant so now we have to try and pay the rent and the bills on my income alone and they are moaning about wanting more?! be happy with what you have! the greed!!!
- i agree..once the infrastructure of the royal mail has been been transferred over to TNT eg. vans , buildings, machinery, as it stands the current Royal Mail employees seem to think they own it, when in fact the government allow them to do it, do you know of any other unskilled industry that will not accept changes ? if the job has become part time, then so be it ! technology moves on and every industry has streamlined its workforce to embrace it...welcome to the real world postmen, your days are numbered ! in our lifetime we will see TNT postmen at our doorsteps, union free and rid of the dinosaur shop stewards spoiling our xmas post !
- if it is presumed that other companies would do the job cheaper and better what is this saying about the workers , should they work more hours for less money would you be happy to do this , would our MP;S this is not a labour goverment a true labour goverment would listen to workers and treat them fairly we all have the right to strike and speak out if we are not treated right i support the postmens right to strike
- Privatisation may be an option. Some countries have privatise their Postal services successfully.
- There is no one else. There are a few private companies and TNT is the biggest, but they are all foreign companies. They are not interested in serving the public, they only want the bit that is profitable. My belief is, if there is a private company taking over, eventually there will be no door to door deliveries. Everyone will have to go to a central point. We need an agreement and everyone concerned should stay there until they find one.
- Well said kerryann - should we all have to work more for less with no right just because of a recession what happens when its over - fancy minimum wage for maximum work/hours with no right to a say? They are lucky to have a job after all
- no, my business depends on them and its affecting me too and im not even on strike,
- No. No other company would do it better, and it CERTAINLY won't be cheaper! You think any other company would be able to get a letter from Cornwall to the Highlands for 40p? I've never had any grief from the postal service. I support them tbh. Why should they do two people's jobs for less pay? Edit: Anyway I like Mark, our postie - would some other company sign things on my behalf, chase burglars away (which he did), and would I leave a chritmas card and a beer for some random company? no. And another thing: The reason there is a standard price for sending letters and parcels across the country is that all the post in and around London and other big cities subsidises the cost of sending stuff to more remote regions. If other companies took over, and presumably they wouldn't have so many depots - this subsidy would disappear and the cost to everyone would go up.
- NO I DON'T, Too many jobs are disappearing.
- Hey, that's harsh. I guess you are just being provocative, but there are families and children to think about.
- the posties are on strike to get better pay and conditions. other companies in the past have gone on strike for the same reasons, and people who go and do their job are scabs. yeah, maybe someone else will do the job for less money, but they won't last long. the postmen have put up with poor pay and conditions for long enough. i don't think someone else would put up with it.
- ha ha ha better and cheaper. my god where on earth do you lot get your brains from. stick to your cyber worlds no problems there i'm sure.
- No, I hope they return to work, assume democratic control, and put the executives out of work. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autogestion http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarcho-syndicalism
