Postal Letter

How does the post office know if anything illegal is coming into the country?

Like say im bringing a baton through the mail , which is illegal in Canada except if you are police. now anyone can write it off as an ipod or anything else, so how can the post office know what is inside?

  1. X-ray machine. Have u ever been through airport security???
  2. I know a guy who got marijuana sent to him by his brother through the mail. They tend not to check.
  3. It is random. Mail that enters a nation's borders is searched by that nation's Customs department, in this case the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). They cannot search all the packages, but they check many of them using different techniques, such as sniffer dogs, chemical detectors (for drugs and bombs) and x-ray machines. In some cases if the package looks suspicious, they may rip it open to look inside, and re-seal it if nothing is found. But is not a definite, they cannot possible search every package, so there is an element of chance involved. Drugs and explosives are the easiest to find, whereas something like a baton would be harder because it has no chemicals and it is basically a cylindrical piece of metal (like plumbing).
