Postal Letter

How do I send a letter from New Jersey, USA to Gujarat, India and the cost?

My boyfriend lives in india and I would like to send him a letter. I recently bought these stamps from the post office they say "Usa First-Class Forever" on them....but there is no price written on them telling worth. I don't know how much postage I need to send him a letter. Will I be able to use these stamps? If so how many of them do i need to send a letter to Gujarat, India? Also once I write the address and put stamps can i just put it in the mailbox? or do I have to go to the post office as it is an international mail? Since it is international mail does it need to be sent through post office like if they have any procedures or anything? I really need to know this as I can't ask my family as they don't know about my boyfriend. If I put the wrong amount of stamps the mail will be returned to my house which will cause problems with my family. I looked up this all at usps.com but it didn't really help me. If somebody could help, I'd be very thankful.

  1. Friend, You can always sent the latter to Gujarat-India anywhere from US. It will cost MAX $2 for you and you need to visit nearby post office for that. The ticket you have has the value 42 cents. I normally does send post from US to INDIA and the cost veries with weight and size of the latter. You can find out the postage from below link: http://ircalc.usps.gov/ All the best. Do let me know if you need any other detail about INDIA or Gujarat (As I am Indian and Gujarati)
  2. Just write the letter, put it in an envelope, write the proper addresses, go to the post office, and give it to them. When you give it to them, tell them you need to send it to India, and what are your options. There is international mail (which I believe is different than 1st Class Mail which is only if mailed within USA), and even that has different variants/options in it, like over night, regular, and more. Also you can get extra service, like certified mail, registered mail, and etc... So just go to the post office, and ask the clerk at the counter, and the clerk will provide you with the service that meet your needs. That is what I do when ever I send mail to Gujarat. I do not send mail often, so I don't remember the exact options. Hence I just ask the clerk for clarifications every time I go, which is about once a year or 2. So I would suggest, that you just go to the post office, and ask the clerk about your options, as only the clerk can explain to you the best options.
