New mailing address not in US Postal Service database?

I will be moving soon, so a couple days ago I filled out the mail forwarding form on the US Postal Service web site. The web site said my new address is not in their database, even though I typed it in correctly. I received confirmation in the mail that a mail forwarding request was received from me at my current address. Should I be concerned about my mail not forwarding? I'm surprised that the site said my new address is not in their database, since I'm moving into an apartment, and there are other people living in the complex. Mapquest and Google Maps can find the address, although Google Maps doesn't show the street (Mapquest does though).

  1. Mapquest doesn't matter. Call the servicing post office at the new address and verify the correct format. You may have it wrong.
  2. This happened to me. I called the Postal Service and they told me to walk in to any post office and fill out a form in person. It is the only way to do it.
