So the postal strike was about money?
or is it a pay off to keep quiet? The main issue I was told about of the postal strike was the disdain of the modernisation process. However, the latest deal has no change but, a nice pay rise. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8556487.stm

- No matter what the union and striking workers say - in any industry, it's always always always about wanting more money. Never think otherwise. Unions are poison, they brainwash people into begging for more more more money and when they don't get their way, they spit and throw stones like crying 2-year-old toddlers.
- It's a dying business and they have just put another nail in the coffin. More and more people are Emailing or faxing nowadays and when they put stamps up to cover for this extra money even more will do so.
- EVERY thing is about money...USA our postal service is going down-size it's internet = less mail...
- Well, it is the beeb reporting there..... And money must surely pIay a huge part in the negotiations, but I honestly thought that it was about a whole range of issues. Making them walk at approx 5 mph on rounds, closing down smaller post offices, making them do ever bigger rounds putting in more hours and therefore working for less money. And the govt sell off of profitable bits of the PO to foreign or private operators. I have much respect for our posties, I don't envy them their job.
- This is definitely a pay off to keep the workers quiet, by the union and the post office management. My postman is a great person and they are saying that what the workers actually wanted wasn't adressed in the end. Now they have an agreement accepted by the unions that when inflation goes up they will lose out on over the 3 years but will cause union dues to go up and the postman himself will still be put under more pressure. The only ones to gain are postal management and unions. Still the working man or woman who isn't represented properly for their interest but for those who control through the system its heaven.
- This deal will be self financing. As redundancies start to bite, and 25% of the workforce becomes part time, the savings made will pay for this staged pay rise. It is a pity the management of Royal Mail could not have come up with this offer earlier, and saved every one involved a lot of grief, since their drawn out attempts to get the public on side didn't really work anyway. The issue is not decided yet, because postal staff still have to vote on it, and I suspect there will be significant opposition.
- It's not even a pay rise it's over 3 years and inflation is currently almost 4% with prices creeping up. Why don't they set a figure and then link it to inflation or a cost of living index? They do this with my field of work as well and brag about what an amazing rise you're getting when you're getting poorer every year.
