Are there any free virus protection programs out there?
I have an older dell computer and I have re-formatted everything on it but I don't have any virus protection anymore. I don't want to spend $50 just for virus protection and I know a lot of providers have free downloads but they hardly help with much of anything. Are there any trusted softwares out there for virus protection?

- Absolutley. AVG is good. Avast is too. So is Avira. You can get any of them at http://www.download.com
- Tons of them but keep in mind, even what you pay for is no where near 100 percent effective! Your best protection is common sense and safe browsing habits. You use file sharing sites, visit porn sites, download every trinket and bauble of freeware you can find, etc, you WILL become infected no matter what you use
- AVG do a free version that works well. free.avg.com for the download.
- AVG free is pretty darn good, better than a lot of 'paid' antivirus programs.
- i'm using Avast! Free Antivirus 5.0. The new version has been released on their website. It s a freeware. You can register yourself on the avast website to recive the registration key . They provide timely updates (small in size, ie. In kb's. Which s usefull for people with limited internet plans ). It s fully legal n it generates a virus recovery database to report avast about the new viruses . To detect n delete malwares on your comp use malware bytes . Another free software . N a powerfull tool to clean your comp of malwares. I use these softwares myself . http://malware-virus-spyware-remover-tools.blogspot.com/
- There is a site called GOOGLE, google it. Free antivirus programs
- avg is good, been using it for years.
- comodo nod32 avast avg
- Avg is probably the most popular free anti-virus, http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html Also spy bot - search and destroy is very effective. http://download.cnet.com/Spybot-Search-amp-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html But even with these, you'll find that there nothing compared to a payed for product like norton or trend-micro, If you ask me its worth it buying them. If your going to get an alternative free anti-virus, use cnet to download, it searches for virus and gives it a rating on quality.
- microsoft security essentials is FREE it is an anti-virus,malware,and spyware remover, now all you need is a good firewall like zonealarm or online armor.
