2. i assume you mean mailbox at the house or apt. it really depends on the size of the usps flat rate box, but at a house if it doesn't fit they might leave it for you. usually the mail carrier will take it on the route, but may not deliver if they don't feel comfortable leaving it or if it doesn't fit. hard to tell if you will get the package or a note to pick up the package at the post office.
