Is it time to privatize the U.S. Postal Service?

Lets face it, UPS is better at packages, Fedex is better at overnight, and the lines at the post office are the worst they've ever been. It's clear postal managment has no clue how to run a business. Isn't it time to put this dinosaur to sleep?

3. Not Quite. I think that they need to stop doing packages. However, it's still impressive that you can put an envalope in with 39 cent's and it will get to someone else accross country in a few days.
4. No. If we were to let other companies do our letters can you imagine the mess? You would have different rates, different people coming to your door delivering letters at different times. Lets just say you didn't get your phone bill then you would have to figure out which company the phone people use to deliver their mail and try to track it down not to mention I'm sure they would all have different policies and procedures. Yes, the post office can be a pain but not as big of a pain if we allowed anyone to deliver our letters.
5. I have a prejudice but... The USPS is the cheapest service in the civilized world. Could it be better run? No doubt about that. Why do most companies want to privatize the USPS? Its so they can separate off all the profitable parts, such as deliveries to cities. As it is everyone in America is guaranteed mail delivery and that wouldn't be the case if the Private Express Statute was repealed. BTW who was first w/ overnight delivery? USPS.
