What happens when a postal order is nicked or lost?
(UK) I sent someone a postal order, as this is the way to send money through the post without involving a bank account. However, until now I have never had to actually face the prospect of it being nicked, which it looks like it has. So what happens now? Can I get my money back?

- Provided you kept the counterfoil.
- The sender should have a reciept, when the postal order is recieved at the other end it requires a signature - the sender should be able to cancel it.(if it hasn't been cashed already)
- Go back to the Post Office with your counterfoil, they may be able to investigate and eventually you should get your money back.
- I'm not sure if you can get your money back..unless you crossed it payee only .. that way it can only be cashed by the named person.. did you send it recorder with insurance if yes then clain on that.
